Trained first as a graphic designer, Karyn received her art degree from the Art Institute of Colorado. After moving to California, she worked for some of the largest advertising agencies in San Diego and Ventura, California. In turn, this led to a career in advertising, creating campaigns for such large health and beauty companies such as: Nexxus Products Company and Garden Botanika, with award-winning work in design, packaging and magazine advertisements and she enjoys creating artful websites for consumers in any category.

In painting, she is inspired by the natural world and has always wanted to show the "impression at first glance" of what is seen in nature and strives to get that close-up of scenes we all take for granted. A lot of influence comes from her family, including  her grandmother and aunt, both painters, whose work she loves, hoping to achieve the same elegance in her work. Monet and Georgia O’Keefe’s inspiration also keep her work in landscapes, impressionistic.
